“For the Price and Outstanding Quality of  This Fire Pit, it’s Really Not Worth Building Your Own.

Recently I traveled interstate to visit my brother and his family and while we were having a barbecue one evening my brother started to talk about getting a fire pit.

He likes the idea of being able to entertain outdoors in the cooler months and knew that although I don’t sell fire pits I do know a lot about outdoor heating because of the amount of research I undertake for this website.

He wanted to build his own outdoor fire pit, however the only reasoning for his decision was that it would be cheaper than buying a new one. This seems to be how most men think so I said to him, “Maybe it would be cheaper, but not by much and if you think of the time and effort you will put into building it, in the long run it will be quicker and easier to buy one”.

Remember that to build a fire pit you need a plan, then you need to head off to the hardware store to pick out your materials and hope that everything is available. You may even need to buy some specific tools if you don’t already have them. Then you have to bring it all home and spend quite a number of hours or even days putting it all together, especially if you have to wait for cement to set and paint to dry.

As I said to him, if you enjoy building then by all means go ahead and build your own but you can save yourself a heap of time and effort by buying an outdoor fire pit that is pre-built and ready to use.

His concern was that the quality would never be the same as one he built himself so I proceeded to tell him about a fire pit that I knew of which has been rated extremely well by consumers on the internet. Most were astounded by the quality they were getting for the money. In fact, this fire pit has been given a 5 star rating on Amazon – and that’s not something you see very often.

The fire pit that I was encouraging my brother to buy is the UniFlame Slate and Marble Fire pit . I see this fire pit time and time again on various online shopping stores and is consistently at the top of the bestseller list and it  is rated extremely well by consumers. This is definitely a winning product with features that you don’t find in other fire pits in that price range.

What’s in the Box?

  • Firstly there is the hearth – which is basically the base of the fire pit. The hearth measures 34” in diameter. Nestled into the hearth  is a round porcelain coated steel fire bowl which measures 22? in diameter.
  • The next item in the box, which is to be placed on top of the fire bowl is the steel wood grate.
  • Then there is the easy-lift spark guard included, which is a safety factor in preventing sparks from flying out of the fire pit.
  • You also get an M8 wrench to help you put the firepit together and an operating manual.

What is the Fire Pit made of?

The UniFlame fire pit is beautifully finished in slate and marble with copper accents and it is attached to an attractive and sturdy, black wrought iron stand. These materials combine to make a classy looking fire pit which is in contrast to the typical metal framed fire pits. The bowl is porcelain coated steel and the legs are wrought iron.

There is no doubt about it, this fire pit really is a showpiece for your outdoor entertaining area.

How Easy is it to Put Together?

You don’t need to be a handyman to put this one together. It should take most people about 20 – 30 minutes or so. It’s fairly basic and comes with nice clear instructions. And although the fire pit comes dismantled and includes a wrench, you will also need a #2 Phillips screwdriver which is not included.

Weights and Measures

The fire pit weighs approximately 59 pounds and measures 34 inches in diameter. The inner porcelain bowl measures 22 inches in diameter.

What Wood Should I Use?

Your outdoor fire pit is designed to take both normal wood logs, and manufactured wood logs (i.e. Duraflame® logs). It does pay to remember that due to the chemical make-up of manufactured wood logs it is possible that they may cause rusting and deterioration quicker than normal wood logs.
Duraflame® is a registered trademark of Duraflame, Inc.

Caring for your Uniflame Fire Pit

There are a few routine maintenance tasks that you can do to ensure that your Uniflame fire pit remains like new.

  • Once your fire pit has completely cooled, remove the ash.
  • Rinse the stainless steel parts after washing them, making sure you have removed all the soap.
  • Thoroughly dry the stainless steel parts.

Over time Stainless Steel parts will turn a yellowy color. This is quite normal due to the heat of the fire, but it can be reduced if you use a high quality stainless steel polish.

Any non-stainless steelparts will rust over time. The non-stainless steel items have been pre painted or powder coated to reduce the formation of rust. However, over time and with usage the finish may deteriorate. Always do some routine maintenance and see your manual for cleaning instructions.

Some Safety Issues When Using Your Fire Pit

There are a few safety issues that you need to take into consideration whenever you are using a fire pit or any fireplace.

DO

  • Use heat resistant gloves and a fire pit tool when removing or replacing the spark guard.

DO NOT:

  • Add Kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid, diesel fuel or alcohol to start a fire.
  • Place hot tools or fire pit parts onto combustible surfaces such as dry grass, wooden furniture or patios.
  • Put the fire out using water. ALWAYS: let the fire burn out.

How Much Should You Pay for the Uniflame Fire Pit?

We have seen this fire pit retail for up to $250 but to get a really good deal you shouldn’t pay any more than $200. We have consistently found the best price at Amazon.

Protect your fire pit investment!

There is no doubt that you will want to keep your fire pit looking pristine and a cover is always a good addition to protect it from the elements.

The Veranda Fire Pit Cover is a good option as it is made from Gardelle which is a protective fabric system that won’t crack in the cold weather.

This cover  has front and back handles so that you can fit and remove the cover easily and quickly.

There  are also click-close straps that lock around the legs which keep the cover secure on windy days, and there is an adjustable elastic hem cord for a tight, custom fit.
