Nice to have an outdoor living area

Review Date: December 22, 2009
Reviewer: Elaine E. Pickle,
For two years we had a propane tabletop heater. When it was windy out the fire would go out, sometimes it took five minutes to get it lit at all. Overall we were looking for a change.

We had bought a quartz heater for our sunroom and loved it. When we found this item on Amazon we decided to try it.

We love it. It is so easy to use. It's a completely different type of heat and it works. People love to come over and sit outside.

The only thing better would be a completely enclosed area with central heat and air.
This heater is great!

My husband and I purchased this heater for our patio. We just love it! It produces a lot of heat. You have the option of havine one side on, only two, or all three. It was easy to assemble too.

Great Firepit But Much Cheaper at Walmart.com

Review Date: January 9, 2009
Reviewer: MDK, San Jose, CA
This is an great firepit for the price. There is some assembly required but it is pretty straight forward and only a few simple tools required. The table is very sturdy and appears that it will last for many years to come. Takes a standard 5 gallon propane tank which is a little tight to fit into its storage space, but can be done (hint: turn valve towards the fire pit as you place it into the storage location). [...]
Beautiful but PAINFUL to assemble

Review Date: April 19, 2010
Reviewer: R. Roure,
This is a beautiful firepit with a great little fire once it gets going. BUT, assembling this thing was awful. It took three of us and about three hours. The main problem is that the instructions are all pictures and the pictures are horrible. The one big thing that delayed us is that NOWHERE did it say that the tile top has a front and a back. So BEWARE when you install this thing in the beginning the FRONT of the tile top has three little holes in its two corners versus in the other three sides it is just one hole- this is important at the end when the doors get installed and the pictures just points for you to just put them in without any explanation.

The other thing I would suggest is to get a real allen wrench - if you use the one provided (which we tried in the beginning) it will add another hour....

Why dont they use written instructions with the pictures for us who know how to read!!!?????
I love it!

Reviewer: Ms. Anonymous,
This firepit is awesome - especially the price! I seen so many just like this that were priced over $1,000. It was fairly easy to put together. Just use common sense, you can figure it out. The slate/marble tile is really colorful, much prettier than pictured. I would highly recommend this firepit.

Product Description

The Mr. Heater MH35LP 35,000 Btu portable propane radiant heater is perfect for construction sites where you don't need to heat more than 800 square feet. The MH35LP is a radiant heater, which means it directly heats objects in front of it instead of the surrounding air. This makes it very efficient: you can get up to 12 hours of use from a 20-pound propane cylinder. Hook-up is simple using the included hose and regulator, and handy jobsite features include a folding handle, transport wheels, and convenient piezo push-button igniter. Rugged steel construction means that this heater is going to last, too. CSA Certified. One-year limited warranty.--Josh Dettweiler

Five Tips for Buying a Heater
Choosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier.

What are the different types of space heaters?

  • Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
  • Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
  • Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
  • Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.

Should I buy an electric or a combustion model?
If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips.

How powerful a heater do I need?
Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:

  • Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
  • Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.

Do space heaters cost a lot to operate?
As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient.

Are space heaters a fire hazard?
Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.

Product Description

A perfect reproduction of a 1950s design, this retro charcoal grill would please Elvis, as well as grill and smoke meats, poultry, seafood, and vegetables in the down-home manner he appreciated. It's heavy and sturdy, and rolls around a deck, patio, or lawn on semipneumatic rubber wheels. Made of cast aluminum for maximum heat radiation, the grill cooks foods uniformly, whether they're grilled quickly or slow-cooked and smoked under the hinged lid. Four adjustable vents and dampers provide precise temperature control. Aluminum side and bottom trays offer lots of room for holding food, utensils, and condiments. The grill assembles easily with screws and nuts (included) and measures 35 inches long, 16 1/2 inches wide, and 35 inches high. Because the cooking section detaches from the lightweight aluminum carriage, the entire unit can be quickly disassembled for a camping trip. --Fred Brack
